Ready to map out your organization and give everyone their place? With Smackdab's visual Hierarchy Canvas, administrators can easily build, manage, and scale their entire team structure.

This powerful and flexible system lets you assign users to specific roles, departments, or teams with a simple drag-and-drop interface. Whether someone wears one hat or many, the hierarchy makes it a breeze to manage their responsibilities across the organization.

Two Paths to Your Hierarchy Command Center

Smackdab gives you two convenient ways to access and manage your hierarchy settings, depending on your needs.

1. Quick Access from Your CRM Settings

For everyday management and viewing within the CRM:

  1. Navigate to Settings from the main menu.

  2. Click on Administration, then select Hierarchy.

  3. From here, you can see the current structure, add users, and adjust relationships as needed.

2. Full Control in the Admin Portal

To manage the entire organization-wide structure:

  1. Click your User icon in the top-right corner of the header.

  2. Select Administrator from the dropdown menu to open the Smackdab Admin Portal.

  3. In the left menu, click on Hierarchy to start building out your master org chart.

Meet Your Visual Playground: The Hierarchy Canvas

The Hierarchy Canvas is your interactive, drag-and-drop command center for visually building and representing your organization. It's where you'll bring your team structure to life!

Use the canvas to configure:

  • Your complete organizational layout

  • Branches, regions, and departments

  • Specific positions and roles

  • Permission boundaries to control access

  • Teams and reporting lines

Pro-Tip: Working with a large and complex structure? Use the Zoom In/Out and Fit to Screen controls to navigate your canvas like a pro!

Assigning Users to Their Roles

Placing users into the hierarchy is simple and intuitive.

Every functional block on the canvas (like a department or position) features an Assign User button. This button lets you:

  • Assign an existing user to that role.

  • Create a new user and assign them to the block on the spot.

Just click, assign, and confirm! The user will be instantly linked to that part of your hierarchy.

One Person, Many Hats? No Problem!

A single user can be assigned to multiple blocks. This is perfect for team members who contribute to several departments, manage multiple branches, or hold various positions. You can assign users to one or more of the following:

  • Organization’s Main Block

  • Region or Sub-region

  • Branch

  • Department or Sub-department

  • Team

  • Position

These assignments will all be clearly reflected in the user's account, allowing them to switch between their different roles seamlessly within Smackdab.
