Ready to design the perfect set of permissions for your team? Creating a custom Policy Group in Smackdab puts you in the driver's seat, allowing you to define exactly who can do what within your CRM.
This guide will walk you through the simple steps to build a new policy from scratch, giving you the power to create a secure, efficient, and perfectly tailored environment for every user.
Journey to the Policy Command Center
First things first, let's head to where the magic happens.
Start at Settings from your main menu.
Navigate to Administration.
Select Policy Group.
You'll land on the Policy Group list, where you can see all existing policies. You'll notice Smackdab has already set up a couple of defaults for you, like User and Admin, to get you started.
Start with a Clean Slate
To begin crafting your new policy, click the "New Policy Group" button at the top-right corner. This will open the "Add Policy Group" window, your canvas for designing the new set of rules.
The Fun Part - Designing Your Policy
This is where you define the rules of the road for your users. The creation window is split into two main areas: a navigation panel on the left with all the features in your CRM, and a space on the right where you'll build your permission list.
A. Choose a Feature to Manage
On the left side, you'll see a neatly organized list of categories like CRM, Sales, Marketing, and Administration.
Click on a main category (e.g., CRM) to reveal the specific modules inside it (e.g., Companies, Contacts, Deals).
Select the module you want to set permissions for (e.g., Deals).
B. Add and Define Permissions
Once you've selected a module, click "Add Permission" or the "Click here to add permission" text. A new window will pop up with a list of all possible actions for that module.
Hand-pick permissions by checking the boxes for actions like
View
,Create
,Edit
, orDelete
.Use Power Moves like "Allow All" or "Deny All" to quickly grant or revoke all permissions for that module at once.
Click the "Add" button to lock in those rules.
You'll see the permissions you just set appear in the main window. From here, you can review and even fine-tune them by allowing, denying, or deleting specific rules you've added. Repeat this process for every module you want to include in your policy!
Save Your Masterpiece!
Once you've added all the desired permissions and are happy with your new rulebook, click the "Add" button at the bottom right.
And that's it! Your new policy will be successfully saved and will appear on the main Policy Group listing page, ready to be assigned to your users. You've just made your CRM safer and smarter!
